C&K West End is a community kindergarten located in inner city Brisbane. One of the oldest kindergartens in Queensland the Kindy was successful in obtaining a funding grant to upgrade the existing bathroom areas. Once funding was secured Twofold Studio worked with the staff and committee to develop a design that fulfilled the brief and the budget. Twofold Studio then worked with the contracted builder to assist with delivering the project within budget and timeframe.
The design concept developed by Twofold Studio for the bathroom interiors provides a connection to the existing 1940s building through the colour palette and inclusion of vintage elements. A vintage feel is demonstrated through the metal lace pendant light, birds in flight decals and the ‘vintage hand mirror’ wall. The mirrors are a focus for the children, who enjoy looking at themselves during their bathroom visit. The materials and fittings selected are modern to meet the required codes and guidelines and provide a contemporary space within the older building framework.
