The West End Studio of Body Organics Pilates and Healing Centre is located in an old Army Barracks and Stable facility in inner city Brisbane. The Stable was converted to the main Pilates equipment space, and includes a striking colour palette and large lighting pendants featuring the Florence Broadhurst fabric design ‘Horses Stampede’. The existing down lighting was replaced with low energy up lights to illuminate the painted structure and minimise glare for clients looking up while using the equipment.
The Quarters building houses treatment rooms and space for classes. Carpets were removed and the existing old timber floor boards were polished and finished with natural oil. In one of the rooms, newspaper lining the floorboards from the 1940s was discovered. Rather than sand off the newspaper, it was retained in its original condition and sealed to create the ‘Newspaper Room’. A fresh blue and white colour palette was selected and new feature lighting.
