Located in Chelmer, a green leafy suburb of Brisbane, Body Organics is a centre for Pilates and healing therapies. The project involved the conversion of a post-war timber cottage into an open plan Pilates studio, three therapy rooms, reception area and accessible bathroom.
The design concept developed by Twofold Studio for the interior integrated a contemporary aesthetic whilst retaining character features. Wall textures were highlighted rather than downplayed. The retention of the VJ timber lining and existing textural wallpaper were simply painted over providing a beautiful textural surface. Other materials used in the fit out included natural oiled hardwood timber floors, eco-ply, coloured acrylic joinery and feature patterned fabric window treatments.
The colour palette was based on a cross-over between natural and urban environmental hues. The selected pigments worked to provide intensity and contrast to the active zones with the calmer colours moving through to the passive therapy spaces.
Overall the project balanced feelings of energy and calm benefiting both the clients and staff of Body Organics.
