Aperture House

Brisbane, QLD

Project Notes

Twofold Studio collaborated with architect Jayson Blight from Blight Rayner Architects to design the extension to this 1890s worker’s cottage in the inner city Brisbane suburb of Highgate Hill.

The small workers cottage typical of the suburb was retained, and the original brick fireplace provided the starting point for the materiality, program and scale of the contemporary extension.  Storage was maximised by part height ply storage walls separating private and public zones.  External finishes were brought through to the interior for seamless integration.  An efficient floor plan was offset by volumous spaces and refracted light.  Attention to detailing and craftsmanship was paramount to the finished product.
